About This Spot

Perched atop an 8th-floor building in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids, Knoop Rooftop Cocktail Lounge unfolds as a calming refuge with an expansive skyline view. The moment you step inside, there’s an unhurried elegance to the space — a gentle hum of conversation, the clink of ice in glassware, and the subtle warmth of a gas fireplace drawing people together in the outdoor seating area. It’s the kind of place where city rhythms and open air mingle effortlessly, inviting you to pause and savor simpler moments with friends or new acquaintances alike.

Cocktails here aren’t just drinks; they’re thoughtfully crafted experiences, each sip revealing layers of flavor that complement the rooftop’s panoramic backdrop. You might find yourself returning to a favorite signature blend or discovering a new concoction that sparks conversation and curiosity alike.

Food arrives not as an afterthought but as a companion to the drinks and the views—a small but carefully curated selection of bites that encourage sharing and slow savoring. Whether it’s a perfectly seasoned fish dish, a rich slider, or a playful flight of pretzels, the menu echoes the lounge’s warm, approachable ethos without fuss.

This is a place where the mood drifts between relaxed zest and thoughtful moments, where your eyes lift as often to the view as to the people across the table. Whether you come ready to unwind after a long day or to celebrate with a crowd, Knoop’s rooftop feels like a quiet celebration of the city’s evolving social scene—a hidden gem that keeps a loyal, contented crowd returning for more.

Good burger. - Wagyu Burger - $18: A high quality beef that was leaner and a tad drier. It was cooked medium-well. The two patties were almost smash burger thin and cooked similarly. I didn’t sense the carmelizing, though. It had a great amount of cheese. The toppings were fresh and balanced. The sauce was nice, but I think I would have preferred a little ketchup on it (which they had on the side). I love Nantucket bread and their bun was a great match for this burger. The bun was toasted and had a spot that was burned, but it didn’t affect the flavor or texture. Overall it was good and worth the price. I am not over the moon about it, but it was a quality burger. This is the second wagyu burger I’ve had in Grand Rapids. - Fries - $2.50 extra: Very good fries. I’d put it on my top ten list in Grand Rapids that I’ve had so far. They were thinner cut, but not shoestring thin. They do cool fast, but they serve them super hot to make sure you have time to eat them. They were a little on the saltier side, but it really works for this particular application. They were cooked perfectly. - Service: Took some time. We were seated by someone at the front door of the restaurant on the 8th floor. Another server took our order and processed payment. A third server actually brought our food out and took our dishes. I had to flash money to get attention to pay our bill because we were forgotten (we waited 10 minutes). Other than that, we were well taken care of. - Atmosphere: Clean, organized, classy, modern. I felt slightly out of place with street clothes when the one taking my dirty plate was in a suit. Some pictures of the atmosphere were bright and cheerful, but at night it was very dimly light and darker. The biggest plus is the outdoor rooftop balcony seating. We were there during the winter, but I’ve been there in the summer and it is an amazing view! Even looking out the windows is fantastic. - Conclusion: Good burger. High class place. Visited on a Wednesday at 7pm.

Absolutely loved the food, drinks, and vibe! The cod? Flaky, flavorful, and simply amazing with the aïoli. The steak? Melt-in-your-mouth amazing! And the Old Fashioned—it was on pointe. This place ia a hidden gem. Can’t wait to come back for more!

A beautiful setting! We made reservations for a large group and the tucked us into the lounge area. We stayed for a few hours drinking and getting dinner. The drinks were delicious and the food was great.

Went here after work to celebrate a Bday. Drinks and food here were great. Lovely rooftop atmosphere. My qualms: the waitress had to come back several times tell one of us that they were out of something ordered. To be out of half the things on the menu @ 4PM on a Thursday was a little shocking but we brushed it off. The waitress asking if we wanted our checks multiple times when we were actively still ordering and eating was a bit off putting.

A great rooftop to spend the afternoon eating and drinking. Our server was very helpful with our drink selections and never steered us wrong. They were all excellent. The food was perfect as well. It took us a while to get a reservation, so book early. It's a busy spot, and it deserves to be.

Went here for drinks. Every drink was wonderful, we were a group of 11, and got lucky to walk right in on a Saturday night! I wish i would have more photos of the skyline and the overall atmosphere inside of Knoop. It was great. Since we were a larger group, we basically tried most of the drinks and loved them all!!
